The Starting Line: A Strategy for Early-Stage Investing
Alberta’s seed-stage investing ecosystem has matured quickly — and the opportunity ahead is only getting more interesting.
On March 12, InterGen is convening a curated group of both new and experienced investors for a private dinner at Ferrari of Alberta. The evening will explore how early-stage investing is evolving, how investors are assessing opportunities today, and where the next wave of Alberta companies is emerging.
Held in partnership with Alberta Innovates, the program will feature two focused conversations:
The first session is a discussion on AI-native seed-stage investing with Raif Barbaros, Partner at Mistral Venture Partners, moderated by Michelle Scarborough, VC and Private Equity Investor — examining how technology is reshaping diligence, decision-making, and portfolio construction at the earliest stages.
The second session brings together Darcy Tuer, CEO of ZayZoon, and Sharon Watkins, CEO & Chief Investment Strategist of Sandstone Asset Management, moderated by InterGen CEO Sandi Gilbert. This conversation will centre on the importance of local capital in backing Calgary-based startups and scale-ups — and what happens when strong operators and aligned investors build success stories close to home.
The program will be followed by cocktails, dinner, and time to connect with fellow investors in a small, highly relevant room. InterGen will also share a brief introduction to InterGen Capital as we begin raising Fund II.
Whether you’re actively investing or considering seed investing as a next chapter, the evening is designed to refine how investors evaluate opportunity and provide a grounded view of how capital can shape outcomes in our own backyard.
